UPDATES:
1) The phone connector can be re-attached to the camera flipped around so it fits it in the provided case without protruding through the hole. When I tried this during shooting it didn’t seem to fit – but I had the case inverted. I apologise for this error/omission. If this has changed your mind about the camera – click an affiliated link above to purchase it.
2) The photo at 05:22 of the railings was not taken with the Osmo – it snuck into the project folder in error. It was taken with an iPhone X in Portrait mode – hence the weird blurring artifacts.

Seems obsessed with field of view – if you like wonky pictures get a GoPro!
Seems to me that half the people commenting here are missing the point of the Osmo Pocket.
Ok, what about osmo pocket’s mic adapter? Not only DJI charges you a premium for what is a cheap piece of plastic and makes it impossible to use a third party equivalent adapter but, at least outside of the USA this item is impossible to find. I even managed to buy it from a local reseller, I am in the UK, to be told the day before delivery (a good three weeks after I ordered it) that it was out of stock and would not be back in stock for another month at least. Furthermore, two-three days later, I received a stock reminder by DJI (as I had registered with their service before finding out that a UK reseller had one in stock) that the item was back in stock. Nevertheless, when I tried to buy it from their store (I received the reminder at 11.30pm and I saw the email only two hours later when I tried to buy it from their online store) I could not buy it and customer service told me that it was out of stock and tried to convince me to buy it from an American resellers for close to double its price (plus possible import tax by UK customs).
Great review – very helpful and informative – thanks
Guess who came here for the last 19 minutes? 😀
Awesome review!
Sorry Techmoan, I have viewed your video's for years, but you made a right pigs ear of that one.
check my osmo pocket videos.
It's marketed like a video game with micro transactions. In this case it's a modular camera. The base product is functional, just barely. Modular add ons, accessories, pro functions each cost extra.
If consumers keep buying this stuff it will just keep happening.
Thanks for this very informative video. I am contemplating buying the osmo pocket Ora smartphone gimbal but can't decide as yet.
Can you tell me if it works possible to zoom when the smartphone is attached, also what is the max we card capacity supported?
Does the video transfer from the osmo into the phone we card?
Notice from your videos that you operate around the Wigan area, is the alpaca farm (or are they llamas?) In this vicinity?, I would like to visit it.
Regards David
Great video and review! Where can I find the bag shown at 17:11?
I bet you didn't expect to find us here at the very end of the video…or did you? Just curious, is there such a data as of how many people stuck to the very end and/or who they were?
That was great review..
Thank you for taking the time to acctually go through all that
Fantastic long-term review. Thank you for taking the time to post this. I’m fascinated by the idea of this device, but I do think it was rushed to market in an unfinished state. I do hope for a second generation version that is a complete product. Some things I would look for, and would expect to pay a little more money for, would include:
1. Wider angle lens.
2. Inbuilt wireless.
3. External audio support (mic port, support for wireless mic/earbud monitor)
4. “Log” low-contrast, low-saturation video output for color grading.
5. Inbuilt jog wheel or thumb pad for panning/tilting.
6. Forego the direct physical connection to the phone. There should be no need for this in 2019. We have NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi which should all be sufficient for use without direct port connections.
7. Ease way back on the accessories. Make this thing work out of the box really well.
8. Tripod mount at the base.
I'd love you to review and test the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 gimbal for smart phones (£129), especially with an iPhone. I know there's other videos on YouTube but yours are the best.
I love my Osmo Pocket. Footage when cycling (holding in my hand) is actually more stable than anything else I have used (including the Osmo Action and GoPro 7 Black).
One thing I don't like is the lack of 2K resolution. My DJI drones can record in full HD, 2K or 4K. Osmo Pocket can only record in full HD or 4K. Why????
I don't agree with your comment that a joystick would have been better than a scrollwheel. In many cases, you are only going to scroll up/down or sideways. It's very difficult to do properly with a four-directional joystick, so the DJI solution is actually well thought about and works very well…
I agree however that the standard case should be compatible with the Osmo Pocket with the wheel attached, or even that the wheel should have been part of the device…
osmo probably: lets make this as small as possible with no wifi, replacable battery, audio jack, waterproofness and a real narrow field of view. Sell 59€ wifi-modul, 129€ charging case, 29€, usb-c to audio adapeter, 55€ waterproof case and a 75€ selfie stick ->(347 €) and let everybody wait a half year before releasing any of that accessories.
There seem to be more cons than pros at the moment – no news on an updated model with all the stuff it should have had in the first place I suppose? By the way – your reviews are the best on YouTube … and British! — UPDATE: Having seen many other reviews I find this one unnecessarily critical. Unless you're a picky professional and want to refilm Sound of Music this camera will do you perfectly well. I've just got mine!
It seems to me that you are in total disagreement with other more qualified reviewrers
Why don't use the wide angle lens accessory ? it works pretty well imo
First of all: this is not an action cam. If you want action, buy a GoPro/DJI OSMO Action or some other Chinese knock-off. This DJI Osmo Pocket is far too delicate for it. Second: this camera has a proper lineair wide angle lens of 26mm – so it is not ultra wide angle (hence the need for a selfie stick). It does not have the (as some may find: horrendous) fisheye look that action cameras have (and that you can't get rid off (fully) or is a PAIN to remove in post (I am looking at you GoPro Hero 7!)). With de Cinematic flat film mode and (3rd party) ND filters the footage is very pleasing and can be color graded and you can get that cinematic look (180 rule) with 4k60 FPS! It also has great hyperlapse and timelapse functions. The RAW photos are good too. The footage does not stand out in professional productions – as long as there is enough light. It is also a very nice travel, holiday or hiking film/photo camera for those who want to travel light and/or don't want to burn their smartphone battery filming in 4k/60 or filling up their phone memory. I think the DJI Osmo Pocket is also a nice, small tool for stock photography and filming.
I fully agree with you about the WiFi, Bluetooth, control joystick/wheel, these things should have been part of the camera itself. These are basic functions! …And I hate being beta tester too, but it is nice software features are added, updated or bugs are fixed with new firmware. But I do get a tiny bit of a Samsung-Fold-release-feeling with this one… 😉
Get yourself the original Osmo
On the day of launge I wanted one. But I’m happy I never spend my cash on it
I have an original Osmo and probably is better all around, mind you I only used it twice in almost 3 years, ok only because My circumstances changed. But I love the portability of this one
Thank you!
Interesting review. I waited for a while before I bought mine as it allowed more accessories to become available. The control wheel is very good and it also gives you a fast mode change which is handy. I got a Ulanzi base for it so it had a tripod mount and could be charged from either side of the base. No problems getting ND and ND+circular polarising filters. Finding my way around the settings took a while but once you get it, you can do more things with it. The 80 degree view angle very well suits what I used it for, I normally use a Sony FDR AX700 for general purpose video but the are locations and places where its too big or inconvenient to use and it here where the Osmo Pocket fill a very useful gap for me that action cameras did not. The video quality is good enough to mix and match with the AX700 footage and can be processed with much the same post methods. As far as the carry case, I found one on eBay that is designed to have the control wheel fitted and it makes the cameras robust and convenient to carry around in a pocket or carry bag.
unless i can get dgi to let me test one i wont use it
very nice in depth review
Finally, a honest and non-biased review. You're the best!
I saw every single video on YouTube about the Osmo Pocket, and I missed the one from Techmoan?! No way!
Watching it entirely immediately 😂
You should have just used Google translate while going through the Chinese menus
Idk if anyone mentioned but the charging case can hold filter, connectors in the inside, between the Osmo Pocket and the case
Oof that battery though 2:01
Keren shooting ny ya 😃 follow Kanal kembali ya Good utk algorithm Utube
ha mine updated in a different language too. It was freak luck that I guessed the right icon for language in the menu.
Thanks for the review. A question: is it possible to use the Osmo Pocket while charging? I mean for example the Osmo is attached to a power bank and recording at the same time?
